DeBNDL is a drop-type application for use with Apple's System 7.0 or better. It provides a simple method for replacing an icon in the Finder's Desktop File. Normally, you would have to rebuild the Desktop File by holding down command-option when rebooting and then waiting for the Finder to rebuild the entire Desktop File. While this is still recommended when adding, changing or removing substantial numbers of application and other files from your hard drive, when designing that one icon for your special folder or new application DeBNDL is the ticket.
To use DeBNDL, first modify your icon using whatever tool you normally use on the application or file you are changing. Then drag the changed application or file onto DeBNDL (waiting for DeBNDL to "light up"), then let go. If all goes well, you will hear a positive sound confirming that the new icons are in the Desktop File. If you hear a "splat" sound, this indicates there was a problem. Also, if you double-click or otherwise open DeBNDL without dragging-and-dropping an application or file onto it, the "splat" sound will be played.
DeBNDL is primarily used by developers and was designed for them. With this in mind, DeBNDL is sold as-is without warranties (express or implied). I do not guarantee that DeBNDL will work flawlessly, even though much time has been spent debugging it. I will attempt to fix any problems that are brought to my attention, however.
DeBNDL is shareware, and as such has a "trial period" of 30 days. If, after that period of use, you find that DeBNDL has worked for you and you intend to continue using it, you must pay the shareware fee of $5. If DeBNDL is not useful to you, please destroy your copy (or pass the complete package on to a friend!).
If you have an account on Compuserve, you may register this application using the Shareware Registration system. The registration ID for DeBNDL is 122.
Do not distribute modified versions of DeBNDL and make sure this text file is included with the application when distributing.
